Case Studies – Dali Alive
The Project:
Dali Alive
The Client:
The Pinecone Project /Grande Experiences
The Situation:
Dali Alive, an immersive exhibition in The Stanley Marketplace in Denver featured a 13,000 square foot projector environment along with a built area creating a Salvador Dali like experience. The built area would require creating large sculptural features and mind-bending creations to provide visitors with a surreal experience. All of the environment needed to be designed and put together in a way that could be built, installed and eventually shipped and stored for future use.
The Solution:
There were a number of pieces for this event that needed to be created. Sculptural elements, like a 6 foot diameter egg, a tremendous two sided nose and moustache were made from foam, hardcoated and hung from the exhibit space. Additionally, we made “opto” booths – small enclosures with lighted SEG graphic walls to tell the Dali story. A floor to ceiling mirror room needed to be built for the exhibit as well. We sourced single and double sided mirror panels and installed them seamlessly in the space with display monitors behind specific areas in mirror walls that created an infinite reflective room effect. Wall mounted interpretive panels were designed and installed as well as lobster phones which supported an audio component of the exhibit. In all, our team created all the supporting tangible pieces of this truly immersive experience that brought the Dali experience to life.
While the design, fabrication and installation of the project was a challenge, everything needed to be made to travel to additional locations. We designed and built shipping crates to store and protect all the pieces of this display along with a loading plan to optimize their volume in a truck to be moved and stored for the future.
The Result:
A mindbending exhibit with real world fabricated structures that awed and amazed the audience as they interacted and experienced the legacy of Salvadore Dali.
