Case Studies – Long Love Aspen

The Project:
Long Love Aspen Campaign

The Client:
Aspen Ski Company

The Situation:
Guests in beautiful and amazing places love to share what they are up to on their social media.  Photo moments, giving opportunity to identify a place are becoming increasingly popular. Aspen Ski company started a “Long Love…” campaign on social media for their four mountains. Aspen, Buttermilk, Highlands and Snowmass and wanted to create moment-worthy constructions on each of the mountains to provide guests with a branded background. They asked for a way to make large-scale words spelling out each of the mountain’s names with the Long Love in front of each that could be installed in the elements and survive the harsh conditions at altitude in Colorado.

The Solution.
We were asked to design unique presentations for each of the mountains that could be freestanding and set up outside at each location. We settled on making each piece out of polystyrene foam, cut on the CNC machine that could be hard coated and painted. Some had additional challenges like having clear acrylic faces, so the sun would project the mountain name on the snow, others were done on rotating barrels, evoking prayer wheels seen in the Himalayas.  These sculptures needed to look great, but also needed to endure the extreme elements of outside life.

One of the bigger challenges with this project was not just the design and fabrication, but the installation.  Our shop, based in Denver, allowed us fairly close access to the Mountains, but we still had to trailer these into place, and work closely with Mountain Operations for each of the locations to move them into place with snow cats, and assemble them on the mountain during the peak of ski season.  Having a mobile team, capable of working in the snow, moving large letters around, sometimes on skis, let us flawlessly install each of the four pieces in one of the most beautiful locations in the world.

The Result:
Four mountains, four amazing photo moments installed in some of the world’s most beautiful scenery. Each ski season approximately 1.4 million visitors ski this mountain network and take countless selfies promoting the exlusivity of the Aspen Ski Company network.
